My hand bleeds
as I hold on to love.

So much is left unsaid,
caught at the edge of the tongue;
the heart rises with feeling,
but the mouth falls silent.

When you looked into me,
it felt like finding light
after living too long in the dark.

Now what we were,
and what we might have been,
fades into the distance
like a song cut off
just as I began to love it.

And I am left with this fear:
that these memories are mine alone,
that I will soon become a stranger to you
while you remain in me
like a room I cannot empty.
